For some completely unsubstantiated reason I harbored a fantasy that the Dell 2407 would come out on Good Friday. I believe it all started when I was perusing the 500 some odd threads on various forums speculating on its release date; some exuberant soul proclaimed, “This bad boy is coming out on Friday!” I forget which Friday he was referring to, but it set in motion whatever machinations my evil little mind goes through to arrive at conclusions that can be put forth on the Internet. After all, it’s well established that once a factoid is published on the web it becomes an irrefutable fact.
Lo and behold, the 2407 hasn’t been released in the USA yet. At this point that’s the only established fact we’ve…established.
Although, in the spirit of Good Friday, which is…wow it’s been a long time since Sunday School (incidentally, I attended religious instruction on Wednesday, not Sunday, and I think it was the remedial version or something which explains my ignorance)…Anyhow, in the spirit of holidays and hope and all that good stuff, let’s concentrate on (drum roll, fireworks, aaaaaand)
input lag! There were always a few reports that the Samsung 244t, which is based on the same panel that the 2407 uses, experiences some input lag. The 244t is somewhere in the ballpark of $1400 USD, and depending on the degree of lag, it could be disturbing. As I’ve mentioned before, the few that I have talked to who’ve personally used the Samsung give it glowing reviews, but the number of posts I’m seeing on the subject are growing.
If such a lag issue exists, it’s almost certainly a result of the electronics interfacing the panel and not the panel itself, as slow pixel response times are another matter entirely. Let’s hope the Dell 2407 doesn’t suffer from the same problem.
So here on Good Friday, when I should be expounding on the myriad altruistic and worldly pursuits humanity is capable of, I’m wishing that an LCD monitor does not have input lag.
It’s just so wrong on so many levels.
Let’s hope our 2407 doesn’t suffer input lag like 244t
